SJA Reviews: Enemy of the Bane

THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES: ENEMY OF THE BANE
Written By Phil Ford
Directed By Graeme Harper

So, here we are. Enemy of the Bane. The finale of Series Two. I can remember this story getting recognised a lot in the press and being the big thing in terms of children's television to watch. I saw in things such as the Radio Times, they made a big deal out of the whole Sarah Jane and Brigadier alliance and they went into detail about the monsters and the makeup behind the monsters, interviews with the cast. No other story got this kind of big publicity treatment apart from Invasion of the Bane.

I guess this story stands out amongst the others for several reasons, one in which it's got the Brigadier in it. Nicholas Courtney makes a triumphant return to the role, and it's so nice for people who have grown up watching Doctor Who back in the seventies to get something back, it makes a nice treat to see the Brig and Sarah Jane reunited, and for a cracking story too.

Basically, it all starts when Gita, Rani's mother is kidnapped by Mrs Wormwood, who leaves a cheque with her name on it for Sarah Jane and her friends to find so that Sarah Jane can track her down to find where she's holding Gita. It was a tactical way of Mrs Wormwood attracting Sarah Jane's attention so she can ask for her help. She says that since the Bane's plan to take over the Earth failed, she has been exiled and is being hunted. The Bane attacks, but they manage to escape.
Sarah Jane takes Mrs. Wormwood back to her house. Mrs. Wormwood says that an ancient immortal, Horath, tried to take over the galaxy, but was defeated three thousand years previously. Unable to destroy him, Horath's body and consciousness were separated and placed at opposite ends of the galaxy. Mrs. Wormwood says that the Bane have discovered Horath's consciousness, and are trying to find his body, which is located on Earth. Once united, she says the Bane will be able to conquer the galaxy. The only clue to the body's location is in the Tunguska Scroll, which is kept in UNIT's Black Archive, a secure storehouse of alien artifacts.
Sarah Jane visits her old friend, retired Brigadier Sir Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, to get his help to enter the Archive. Sarah Jane and Rani obtain the Tunguska Scroll, which has information on the location of the body of Horath. UNIT personnel stop her, but she uses her sonic lipstick and escapes with Rani and the Brigadier. Meanwhile, Luke is talking to Mrs. Wormwood about his creation (against Sarah Jane's and Clyde's wishes) when the Bane attack the house. Mrs Wormwood is about to escape when a Bane tries to eat her. Sontaran Commander Kaagh blasts it with his laser gun and reveals himself to be her agent. This for me was a real super shock moment because I didn't see it coming.
I think for me and this story, Part One sets up a really great sense of thrill and momentum and Part Two doesn't live up to the expectations of Part One which for me is disappointing. I guess it concentrated too much on being about the whole Mrs Wormwood vs Sarah Jane for Luke's trust. It was an inevitable choice, we all knew all along that Luke was going to pick Sarah Jane, and there is no sense of real danger or treat you know that Luke is going to be fine, because Mrs Wormwood needs Luke alive as he's her only bargaining chip.
I also thought it was a little disappointing that the Brigadier didn't do enough in the story, we didn't get to see much of him. On a plus side, Clyde was brilliant in this story, however with that being said, he didn't do very much either, it seemed to me Rani had much more to do in this and yet she as a character didn't do much to earn that scene time, she gets to go to the warehouse to help Sarah Jane save Gita, she gets to break into the vault with Sarah Jane, she gets to do all these cool things without really doing much at all to add to the progression of the plot.
I'm sorry if this looks as if I'm poking holes and trying to find fault with this story because I'm not. I just think that you've got all these characters not doing enough, the only characters that are active are Sarah Jane, Mrs Wormwood and Luke as the main ones, with Mrs Wormwood supported by Kaagh the Sontaran.
The ending I thought was given the dramatic climax it deserved, with a nice sentimental finish in which the series one finale had to round off the whole series for the past twelve weeks it's been on.
In short, there are some lovely moments of great acting from Elisabeth Sladen and Tommy Knight, exceptional performance from Samantha Bond as Mrs Wormwood and Nicholas Courtney in the moments that we did see him were great, the Brigadier made a nice contribution.
I liked how The Brigadier referenced several of his previous adventures including Day of the DaleksThe InvasionTerror of the Autons and Terror of the ZygonsClyde also made a reference about the events about what happened his dad in The Mark of the Berserker.
It is a good story, I don't think it's terrible or anything and there isn't another story which is dramatically exciting or engaging as this one I don't think, apart from Invasion of the Bane. It's just a pity that the second half doesn't raise the bar that it needed to from the first half.
Very well directed by an experienced director, who knew what he was doing, called all the shots, made all the right cuts for the right reasons and is key to the success of this being so well choreographed in a sense of the word. The pace of this story moves like a dance. It's very elegant and graceful, daring, dangerous with a few miss steps in between.
Great monsters and aliens coming in, it was very exciting to see the Bane back, Kaagh made a surprise return which drove the story into new directs adding him to the mix.
Another thing that I liked was when Mrs Wormwood introduced herself as "Wormwood, Mrs Wormwood", a play on the line "Bond, James Bond" used in the eponymous series of films. Samantha Bond, who plays Mrs Wormwood, played the iconic Miss Moneypenny in the four Bond films which starred Pierce Brosnan, I thought it was nice touch on Bond's acting career and made a nice outside reference, I laughed at that first time I watched it, and that reference still makes me smile.
Lots of good continuty and clever reference used, great acting from pertiuclar members of the cast, wonderful direction and lots of nice story.
8/10.

Next: Prisoner of the Judoon.

Sorry for not blogging.

Hi Everyone.

I'm sorry I've missed a couple of days, I was meant to do three blogs over the last four days and didn't.

I had a busy weekend last weekend, and that, of course, meant I didn't do any blogs or reviews and there was a Mortal Kombat post which I was meant to do on Monday, and I didn't end up doing that either. I apologise, there really is no excuse for me missing a few days, I just got side tracked and tired because I have been working very hard recently and I am continuing to work hard to ensure I have a good future. I am in a nutshell doing my future self a favor, which I'm pretty sure when I look back on it I'm going to pat myself on back and thank myself for working so hard.

But there's no reason why I should find ten to fifteen minutes of my day, to just sit down and write a blog, about anything. A review, Mortal Kombat, Batman, Doctor Who, anything.

So once again, sorry for the delay.

I'll get right back on to blogging, first thing tomorrow.

Thanks everyone.

Mortal Kombat XL: Problem Solved

Hey, Everyone.

This is just a quick post to give you an update on the Mortal Kombat situation. I have managed to re-download and get all the stuff I lost back, and I didn't even have to ring up PlayStation to ask them. It appeared there was some data which I hadn't downloaded, so once that was done I got everything back to normal.

I'm so relieved and pleased about that because I did not want to have to go to the trouble of doing whatever it is you needed to do in order to get all the character skins again, and I had lost a lot of character cards as well, I'm just glad to everything back! I can take a chill pill. It's all fine.

I've got some new updates and ideas for MKXL videos coming soon, so stay tuned for more updates.

And once again, thank you so so much for 500 subscribers. I love you all!

Injustice 2: Red Hood Debut

Red Hood Debut - Thursday 15th June

Red Hood is now available to download for free from PlayStation store from today.

I downloaded him just now and he really is awesome, his combos are really interesting, I still need to get the hang of his special moves and enhanced reflexes but all in all, he's a good character that needs a little work.

I've had him for less than a day and I'm already starting to make my own customizations to his costume. I need to keep on playing to unlock new gear, but I'm hoping that over time I can get to a good enough level with Red Hood that I am happy with.

So when is it that you'll get to see him in my Injustice 2 series? Thursday is the answer to that. Stay tuned for Thursday's upload for the debut of Red Hood.

Doctor Who Review: Empress of Mars

Doctor Who: Series 10 Episode 9 - Empress of Mars

"God Save the Queen" has been scrawled onto the surface of Mars. What are the Victorians doing on the home planet of the Ice Warriors? And what will they find beneath the Martian soil?

I suppose I should start of this review by saying that I thought "Empress of Mars" was fab. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the story on a whole, I just wish it could have been longer. This is when I think the monk story needed to be shortened by an episode and you could make this a two parter, that would have been even better.

The trouble with this is it's hard to structure a beginning, middle and end into a forty-five-minute format. It's a problem that most of the Matt Smith stories had, the fact that you have this good development at the start to get you interested, the story drifts off a bit in the middle and the ending is very rushed. I'm not saying that 'Empress of Mars' was rushed, I'm just pointing out that that is usually the problem with this kind of single episode structure.

I'd say that the story for me got off to a confusing start, the pre-title sequence scene didn't really make a lot of sense to me. I didn't see much point in having it in there, I think once they got to Mars, that's when things really started to take off and I started to get into the story a bit more.

It was one of those adventures which had a nice mix of ideas within it to keep you interested. Victorians and Ice Warriors on Mars. It's an interesting blend, the atmosphere of the caves and the giant gun which I forget the name of, that all reminded me of "Monster of Peladon" and there were nice continuity references to the old series in this story that weren't so hammered into the show, like the RHIP thing, Rank Has It's Privileges that's a nice nod to 'Day of the Daleks' and to UNIT.

The story for me was a bit like: The Ice Warriors, The Monster of Peladon, and Edgar Wright Burrows of daring adventure to me. There's a lot of Gatiss's Doctor Who fan boy in this episode. You can tell that he just loved writing this.

And of course, the new feature to this is the Ice Queen herself, she looks very appealing and very impressive. I liked all the makeup that was done on her, and the dreadlocks I think were an interesting feature, it made her look like Predator. The Ice Warriors themselves were good as well, I think after "Cold War' when we only had one Ice Warrior I've always said "There should be a proper story where there's lots of Ice Warriors" and this episode provided that splendidly, there must have been at least seven or eight including the Ice Queen. Numbers made up all the difference between the two parties.

And of course, we got to see Alpha Centauri. Which at the start I thought was Missy putting on a funny voice, and then I clocked who it really was.

Speaking of Missy, the ending right at the end between the two of them, I thought was a bit strange and awkward, the camera seemed to have maybe stayed on one frame for a bit too long which made the suspense of the scene between the doctor and Missy a bit strange.

I think this kind of fun was exactly what we needed after the monk three-parter, which was a more serious and darker type of story which dragged on over three weeks. This takes us all away from that and allows us to get caught up in the adventure and we can enjoy running away with it. It's relatable to the classic series, I felt like I was watching an episode from that era, whether it be the Second Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria or The Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane and Harry, that kind of thing.

Peter Capaldi was excellent, Pearl Mackie was very good in this one as well.

A fun adventure story which needed to be longer.  8/10

Next Week: The Eaters of Light. Rona Munro's first Doctor Who episode in twenty-eight years! So I'm very excited about seeing that because I do really like "Survival" and I think to bring a writer who wrote for the original series back is well long overdue. So I'll be back next week to write that review.

Until then have a good week!

SJA Review: The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith

SARAH JANE ADVENTURES: THE TEMPTATION OF SARAH JANE SMITH
Written By: Gareth Roberts
Directed By: Graeme Harper

The Trickster is back for revenge. Sarah Jane goes back in time to 1951 when her parents were still alive and she gets the opportunity to find out and solve the mystery of why they abandoned her as a baby.

As the second series comes to a close, this one being the penultimate story, it really tests Sarah Jane's moral abilities I think. In all the time she has travelled in space and time with the doctor, she must have picked up a few hints and tips of what to do and what not to do when going back into the past and yet we find her going against those rules and by doing so she brings tragic consequences upon the world.

The story starts off with a young boy from the early 1950's, Oscar who walks through a time fissure and is transported to the modern day earth. Unbeknown to Sarah Jane who takes him back, he did it deliberately under the orders of the Trickster. There is a milestone, which tells her that the village she can see in the distance is Foxgrove, this is significant to her because it was the village where she was born. This forces her to make a decision. Does she leave things alone or does she go back to Foxgrove to try and find out the truth. It's a tough choice to make, something which I would probably find difficult to decide in her situation because on one hand you've got earth as it now and by leaving things alone you're doing anything to prevent the course of earth's history but wouldn't you want to know the truth? It's that question which draws you into submission, without really knowing what it is you are submitting to, so in effect Sarah Jane is playing a very dangerous game, of which is very unlike her character and very irresponsible.

She decides to go against herself and puts on a gorgeous pink fifties style dress and decides to go back to Foxgrove. Having picked up what's going on, Luke goes with her. It's interesting to point out that this must be Sarah Jane's first trip through time without the TARDIS and without the doctor as well. When you get to 1951 Foxgrove, it does look very elicit indeed, I liked the whole atmosphere of the fair and the costumes were very authentic and accurate to match the time of the setting. It brings back memories of the days after the second world war, the kind of forties generation still but moving forward. Another thing as well is, now with her own spin off and since coming back to Doctor Who, Sarah Jane has been given a whole new back story thanks to Russell T Davies that we didn't even know about. They just invented it, and as a result of that, we are introduced to her parents whom she has never known. It's almost got that sort of "Father's Day" vibe to the story.

By going back in time, Luke meets his young maternal grandmother and infant mother, just as Ace had done in "The Curse of Fenric, 1989". Also similarly, another interesting thing to comment on is their respective grandmothers hurry off in an automobile, and their maternal grandmother's deaths are described.

It's only when Sarah Jane and Luke are leaving that Sarah Jane thinks "If I damage the car they can't leave and everything that happened to them now can't happen". By doing that she basically destroys the world. She allows the Trickster in, it's a great confrontational moment when the Trickster returns and Sarah Jane and Luke see him in the almost dystopian style of future that he creates.

So for the whole of Part Two, it's basically all leading up to Sarah Jane having to do what she's always needed to do and that is repair the car with the sonic lipstick and send her parents off in the car, but Sarah Jane knows if she does that, they will die because she never sees them again. You might think that the ending to this is a bit naff with Sarah Jane having to do what she's always known she's had to do since damaging the car and that's to repair it and send her parents off, makes you think why did she bother damaging it in the first place? Well it's about Sarah Jane trying to think of possible alternatives throughout the episode to stop the Trickster that doesn't involve sending her parents off in the car, and more she tries to think of a way around that, the harder the struggle is, she ends up having to go against her temptation, and in actual fact she doesn't end up doing what she's always dreaded to do because Eddie and Barbra (Sarah Jane's Parents) work it out for themselves and go off in the car voluntarily. Similar to the ending in "Father's Day". I can understand why the ending of this and indeed the whole of the second part of this story is a big naff. What's the point in her meddling with the car if she is just going to repair it and her parents go off in it anyway as it's the only way to stop the bad guy? I can understand why that may be considered to be a naff ending.

All the stuff in the dystopian world with Rani and Clyde is just a consequence of what the world will be like if Sarah Jane doesn't stop the Trickster.

There's one thing in this story which bugs me though, it's the fact that no one in 1951, dares to comment on Rani or Luke's clothes. They can obviously tell their not from around their area and yet no one comments on their clothes? why not?

This is one of those mish mash stories for me, I really like bits in it, and then I don't like bits in it. Basically I think Part One is really good and sets up the whole atmosphere for the story and raises the bar enormously for Part Two, Part Two is what lets this story down for me, not much happens apart from Sarah Jane trying to resist something that she always had to since changing the course of time, send her parents to their deaths. You can't argue with fate no matter how hard you try. And once again, the Trickster is defeated.

One thing I do really like, and I thought was a nice sentiment, was at the end of story, the camera pans out to an old piece of paper which reads "Mr Smith, I need you". I like it because it interlinks everything to the series so far, I thought it was a nice touch.

Overall this is a story that really tests Sarah Jane, whether she passes it is up to the viewer. But this story without a doubt sets out to test Sarah Jane in a big way. It helps in terms of character development and giving her character more of a sense of purpose and identity as well, everyone has a story to tell however boring or interesting they are, everyone's got a story and that for me is what's so exciting about meeting people. We learn from people as they learn from us.

I'm going to give this story a 6/10.

Next Week: Enemy of the Bane.

Mortal Kombat XL: Refresher

Hello everyone

This is a short notification message regarding Mortal Kombat videos. Basically, yesterday when I inserted the disc into my PlayStation, it was telling me that certain files in the game were corrupted, what by I don't know and that I should delete the application and re-install it. I did that, and when I re-installed the game certain bits and pieces were missing, like character cards and certain character skins such as all of my revenant skins for Kitana, Sub Zero, Liu Kang, Kung Loa and Jax are all gone so I have to go to trouble of those back again, and that won't be easy. All the progress I had made with my faction has gone, so that's all had to restart and all the progression I had made with brutality, fatality, and special move bonus's  that's all restarted as well, so I've gone back to square one on certain things. I've got all the characters though so all the characters I bought, I've still got. So I'm very thankful that I don't have to buy all of them again in order to play as them.

I'll see if I can sort something out with Playstation and see if I can sort something out with them and if there's anything I can do to get all my stuff back. If there isn't I'll have to work towards getting everything back, which may prove a lot of hard work for me as it took a lot of effort to get all of that stuff, getting back my prove difficult.

It's just annoying at the end of the day. I'm a little frustrated and annoyed by it. I'll see what I can sort out in the meantime, please keep enjoying my videos.

Injustice 2 : Red Hood

There's a lot of hype going on with Injustice 2 right now, with the new update which has been released this week. Lots of new and exciting things are coming soon and the game hasn't even been out for a month yet. It's crazy. Crazy but fun.

If you've not seen the recent trailer for Red Hood yet, I recommend you track that down and watch it on YouTube as it gives us a sort of insight into that character and what kind of gameplay ethic we're going to get. He's a character which I'm looking forward to trying out. Now apparently he's not available to play yet. I don't know why that is but reason tells me it's a sort of teaser to get us interested in what's to come.

I really like Red Hood so far of what we've seen of him, he's fast, he's energetic, he has great skill with a gun and overall he looks like a character some players are going to take a great likeness to.

I think we're probably going to be expecting a lot more updates and news, information about what's happening with the game as time goes by. One thing I can be sure of is, it won't be boring.

BATMAN Series 2 Part 1 : July 2017

BATMAN SERIES TWO PART ONE
JULY 2017

Coming Soon from Daniel_Bury27 - Batman Series Two Part One.

Batman Series Two is finally happening. I know that it this series has been quite a long time coming, sorry that it has taken me so long to get this series out, the honest truth is it's just something I have never got round to doing.

Never fear, four new episodes will coming out before the end of this year.

I've decided the best way to do it would be to split the series into two parts, and do the first two episodes in the summer and the other two in the late autumn / early winter.

What you need to know now is there are four episodes in the series, episodes one and two are ready to be edited, so I'll get those edited and ready to be uploaded in the next few weeks. Episodes three and four still have some slight tweaking of the script to be done before filming can start for those and as soon as I have those filmed and edited I'll upload those as well.

Thanks Everyone!

Stay tuned for more updates.

A story about an Elephant.

This is a story about an Elephant.

Now before I begin my story, it's worth starting off with thinking about the idea of patience and of a process, if you like. Rather than trying to fix something it's more like being on a journey where we start to understand and witness the mind in a different way.

Traditionally, when this idea is talked about in mediation normally the Elephant is used as an example. I know this might seem in contrast to this idea of lightness and spaciousness, but there's something interesting about an Elephant. You watch an Elephant and you see a real sense of purpose, it's just one foot after the next. It's tight in any way, it's very relaxed, It's very deliberate, very purposeful.

It is well worth considering bringing this kind of attitude to this type of journey that we're on. Life, believe it or not, is a journey.

In the sense that, it's not something that's going to happen quickly and that everything is going to change over night, but if we all just keep taking one step after the next, and focussing on that in the moment right now, rather than looking too far ahead, or thinking back to what happened months or years ago from now to how one might have felt, then we start to bring the same characteristics into practice, and we start to see meaningful change over a period of time.

It's all about taking it slow, going at your own pace and slow and steady wins the race.

Doctor Who Review: The Lie of the Land

Doctor Who: Series 10 Episode 8 - The Lie of the Land

Earth has been invaded and Bill is living alone, an isolated figure surviving in occupied Britain. The Doctor is imprisoned and appears to be on the side of the enemy, flooding the airwaves with fake news. Bill and Nardole must embark on a dangerous mission to rescue the Doctor and lead the resistance against the new regime. Whatever the cost.

This episode this week, has very much the sort of feel that "Last of the Timelords" had when Earth was under the Master's rule. It kind of had that sense of feel to it when I first started watching it, the sort of post-apocalyptic style to the world.

This episode marks the conclusion to the three part story that we've had over the past three weeks, it wraps up the storyline with the monks and their whole plan to invade Earth and it really tests the Doctor and Bill's friendship. When I started watching "The Lie of the Land" it started very strong, I liked how everything began and the introduction into this world under the rule of the monks. It was very sort of doom and gloom and not very pleasant, people brainwashed into believing that the monks have always been here when in reality they've been here for no more than six months. At the start Bill seems pretty helpless. She's on her own, she's scared, she's caught up in world based on propaganda and lies, but despite all of that she never loses hope in the fact that the world that she's living in now under the rule of the monks isn't real and that there is a way out and that things can be put right and it's only when Nardole comes back she starts that shows a sign that that can happen. Nardole's arrival in the story is Bill's confirmation that things will be put right.

They both go to find the Doctor, they find him only to discover that the Doctor has joined the monks and is helping them. Bill then shoots him dead, which causes the Doctor to start regenerating, false alarm, there were blanks in the gun. So why did the Doctor start regenerating if he was only shot with blanks? does he have it ready as a failsafe or something like that? and also if he really did get shot, we'd be able to see the bullet wounds in where he got shot, no bullet wounds made me question "hmm blanks?" basically in that scene, I think the Doctor was just being a total dick to Bill. Because at the end of it he just said "Ah ha! I got you! It was all part of my trick to see if you were not under the influence of the monks" when she clearly wasn't. The emotionally centered performance that Bill gives in that scene leading up to her shooting the Doctor is clearly genuine so why is it all part of a test?

It's only after they go into the vault and see Missy that they get an idea as to how to beat the monks. It all seems so simple if you think about it. Speaking of the monks themselves, we didn't actually see very much of them in this and when we did they didn't do very much at all. They seemed to just want to let themselves be defeated, because you don't see any other monks trying to stop the Doctor's insurgency, apart from the bit where they're in the Pyramid and two monks zap some of the soldiers to show that they're badass. If I was a monk, I'd try everything I possibly could to stop any resistance from preventing the cause of our rule of a planet which we like being the masters of. There didn't seem to be much resistance from the monks in wanting to prevent change and in the end, they just bugger off anyway. Also a Pyramid in the middle of London. F*cking Pyramids! what is Steven Moffat's obsession with Pyramids?

The ending of this is the most interesting part of the episode to talk about. Spoiler alert coming, so please look away now if don't want the ending to be spoilt for you.

Bill defeats the monks with love. Basically, there's this head piece which is wired up to this thing that channels the monks power and gives them influence on the world, the way of beating to them is to corrupt the channel flow of that power. the Doctor tries in a similar thing to what he did in 'Face of Evil' where he tries to wire his brain into the computer, but that turns out to not work out in his favour, in fact, he makes it worse and ends up hurting himself. Bill decides upon herself to fix the problem that she started and link herself to it, it's the memory of her mum which she channels into the system and then suddenly everything sorts itself out and the monks bugger off. The end. That's what's so funny about all of this the monks just run away in a cowardly fashion. Not exactly the way which I expected this story to end.

Things that I liked? It's hard to say. I did enjoy the episode. I didn't dislike the story very much, but I can't say that I rated Bill very much in this. The Doctor was a bit of an arsehole, Nardole I don't like anyway, Missy didn't see very much of her and when we did she just talked in riddles. So you know, it was just one of those episodes for me.

5/10.

Next week looks good. The Ice Warriors are back! and more than one this time. Let's hope it's a good one.

SJA Review: The Mark of the Berserker

THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES REVIEW: THE MARK OF THE BERSERKER
WRITTEN BY: JOSEPH LIDSTER
DIRECTED BY: JOSS AGNEW

So, we've reached the half way mark of the second series, The Mark of the Berserker being the fourth story of the series. Sarah Jane has a minor role in the serial making it very similar to the "Doctor Who lite" type of stories such as 'Love and Monsters', 'Blink', 'Turn Left', 'The Girl who Waited' and 'The Crimson Horror' stories which don't feature the Doctor heavily. It's kind of like that.

So the story revolves itself around this weird alien pendant which is a piece of alien technology that gives its owner the power to make people obey their every command. So for instance, if I had the pendant and I told my sister to make me a sandwich she'd have to go and do it for me because she'd be under my spell. The problem with this pendant is that it corrupts the mind of the person using it, it's quite deadly in a sense because you lose all identity of who you once were, because your mind has been corrupted by power.

This boy at school is losing his mind to this pendant which he throws away and Rani picks it up, she starts to use it and then frightened by the fact that she might do something terrible takes the pendant over to Sarah Jane's attic so it's out of harms way.

Luke is staying over at Clyde's for the weekend whilst Sarah Jane is away, it's then we see the first appearance of Clyde's mum Carla. We have had her mentioned before in the series but this is the first story where we as an audience actually get to meet her. Then out of nowhere Clyde's dad Paul turns up after not seeing him for five years. This obviously comes as a terrible shock to both Clyde and Carla. Clyde decides he wants to give his dad a chance to explain to him why he left them, whilst they are out together Clyde lets his dad in on the secret of what he gets up to with Sarah Jane, Luke, and Rani. He takes his dad up to the attic, and what do you think Mr Langer takes from the attic? the pendant, once he learns of its power he likes it and the more he likes it the more he wants to use it, but the more he uses it, the more dangerous it becomes.

This one has always been one of my favourites of the series, it's one of the more emotionally centered stories above anything else and there are a few of them in this series. We've has stories which are about Luke, Maria, Sarah Jane and even Rani, but this is the first time we get to see a story which is all about Clyde. This is Clyde's story. It's Clyde Langer's time to shine. And what better way to do that than to resolve the major issue of Clyde's life - why did his dad walk out on him? I think this story deals with the emotionally centered bits really well, it raises awareness to people's struggles having to live in a separated/ broken up family and the difficulties that that can raise, it leaves the child asking a lot of questions, blaming themselves partly for it happening, amongst various other problems which that issue addresses. It was one of those stories which felt like a drama, it was a very good piece of drama for a children's programme.  And there's also a brilliant continuity thing in this where Clyde sturs Sarah Jane's memories of her own parents, whom she longs to have known. This foreshadows the plot for the next story, and that's a great link.

The idea behind the main menace was simple which I liked, for a show which doesn't have a huge budget, it goes back to the days of classic Doctor Who where they have to do what they can with the money that they had for each season. This idea comes from a very simple premise and it's influential to children who can draw the mark of the berserker on their hand with a blue biro pen in the class at school if they ever go bored.

This is also the last story to feature Maria and Alan Jackson, who make a brief appearance in Part Two.

I suppose the main fault I could point out with this is that it doesn't feel that much like 'a Sarah Jane adventure' because it Sarah Jane's not in it that much. It's more like a more serious drama about Clyde and his story rather than being something more of what I perceive Sarah Jane Adventures to be, which is a fun and light sort of show.

I really liked it none the less. 8/10.

Next Week: The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith.

Top 10 Facts About Me that you may not have known!

Hello.

It's Thursday the 1st of June! Summer is well and truly on its way and where has the time gone?

I thought I'd put another blog post up, just to say hello and hope you're all having a good week, are you looking forward to the weekend and are you doing anything interesting or exciting or are you just having a chill out for two days with the stress-free relief of not having to go to work.

Whatever you're doing, hope it's a good one.

I wanted to do a kind of fun post today, where I reveal a few fun facts about me that you may or may not have already known.

We all have our own quirks and qualities that make us different and unique from everyone else, and like I said in a previous post if every single person in the world was exactly the same as one another the world would be a very boring place to live in. But what makes the world so wonderful is the fact there are lots of different people out there who you know or do not know or do not know yet that have their own stories to tell and that's very exciting.

So, get to know me a bit better by going through my list of Top Ten Facts About Me that you may not have known!

Number 1. I have Aspergers Syndrome.

  • I've had Aspergers since I was five. I was diagnosed at a very young age. It just means that my brain functions in a different way to everyone else who I would classify as being 'normal' people. My brain is wired differently, I process things differently, I see the world in a much more different perspective to the average person. This condition can be a blessing and a curse both at the same time, but it's something that I live with every day, it's a chronic permanent condition which is incurable and it's part of me, it partly defines who I am as a person and if you're my friend I can guarantee you that you're going to have a good time. I will keep you entertained for hours on end.

Number 2. My favourite colours are Purple, Blue and Gold!

  • Purple for me is one of the greatest things to ever exist in life, not only is a great colour but it's probably my favourite colour. You're probably wondering as to why that is? Well, I don't really know myself, I just love it more than any other colour that there is, I've always defined it as being my colour, the colour that sums be up the best, it has a mixture of the vibrance and authenticity of life I think, it's also bold and eccentric like I am. It sums me up. Blue, well, it's just a boys colour or has always been known for being a boys colour, one of the primary colours, and also has a special connection to me because it is the colour for national autism awareness. Gold! It's sparkly, glamorous and fabulous!

Number 3. My favourite film is American Gangster
  • Released in 2007, Directed by Ridley Scott. Stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, two excellent actors. I'm a big fan of gangster movies and crime thrillers, I love watching things like The Godfather to Goodfellas or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells to Scarface. I suppose American Gangster is my favourite film because it personifies everything I'd expect a gangster film to be and it tells a great story at a great pace and overall superb film by Ridley Scott.

Number 4. I like checked shirts
  • I love checked shirts, even more so than any other shirts I own, I wear a lot of checked shirts for comfort or just going about casually. When I'm not in a suit, my most comfortable thing I like to relax in is checked shirt and jeans. Whether it's something to do with the pattern or just the overall design of the thing that appeals to me, I really like to wear them.

Number 5. I am a dedicated follower of fashion!
  • Another fashion one. I know. what am I like? No, I have a very loud, wacky taste in fashion for you would not believe. You'd go "really?" "you actually like that?" and the answer is Yes I do, and I'm not ashamed to wear it. I'd happily go out wearing a suit that I made up, because it's what I like and what I feel comfortable in, It may not match or be the right sort of get up for me, but as long as I have the confidence to go out in public wearing it and showing off my personality in my clothes then that's all that matters. I do it as a means of making people understand me better and kind of get used to me so that they know my personality traits.

Number 6. I am obsessed with Jenna Coleman
  • Jenna Coleman is my dream girl. I love her to bits and is in my opinion, my view of a living goddess. I've had the pleasure of meeting Jenna and having a picture taken with her. She's a really nice and friendly person. I've admired her work as an actress from a very young age, and she's an exceptionally talented star growing from strength to strength!

Number 7. I am not a dog person.
  • Sorry to any dog lovers out there reading this, I do apologise. Yeah, I'm just not keen on dogs. I don't mind some dogs. like my mum's friend used to have a dog and she was nice, she'd often come up to me for a cuddle every now an again. But I'm talking about like the very lively dogs, ones who are too over excited, ones that bark at you or bark a lot or bark at any sudden sound or movement. If it's an old dog or not very lively then I'm fine. But yeah, just in general not too keen on dogs. I don't hate them. I just don't like them very much.

Number 8. I can eat, pretty much as much sweets or chocolate as you put in front of me.
  • I don't have an off switch for sugar. You see it on health programmes where they bring the over weight person into a room and on the table is all these nice bowls of sweets and chocolate and I just think to myself, I could eat all of that and still have room for pudding. I have an enormous appetite. I eat a lot. I do like an odd treat now and then, Percy Pigs are my favourite sweets followed by Galaxy chocolate as being the best chocolate brand there is. So yes, I won't say no to a donut or a chocolate bar or a bag of malteasers, whatever it is. Just so long as it's not got coconut in it or any nuts. Nuts are yucky!

Number 9. I'm basically a big kid.
  • I genuinely believe I still am the child I once was in an adult form. All the things I used to like a child, I still like. I watch all the cartoons from my childhood, I have a very child like sense of humour, I'm quite juvenile and really silly when I want to be. I like to laugh. I'm always up for a laugh or making someone laugh, it's what is the best thing there is the world, being able to make someone laugh. To bring a smile or a giggle to any of my friends and family means everything in the world to me.

Number 10. I can recite the whole of Chicken Run.
  • I do know every word that is said in that film, as well as all the sounds and music which are quite fun to do. Yes, If you told me to recreate or recite the whole of Chicken Run, I could do it for you, because again it relates back to me saying I have Aspergers and how I can remember certain things of interest to me. I can do this with a few films, not just Chicken Run. such as: Spongebob Squarepants Movie, The Road to El Dorado, and The Simpsons Movie.

So there you go, ten fun facts about me that you may not have known!

I'll do more if I can think of any, but there you are, there's a little something for you!

Hope you have a good day and a lovely weekend!  I'll be back with more posts and blogs!
