I watched "Seeds of Doom" just the other week and thought, this is a bloody good story. It's fast paced, lots of action, great monster, excellent villains, it's a bit like a spy movie but with science fiction elements to it. Day of the Triffids meets Goldfinger or something like that, not that I think that was the intention Robert Banks Stewart had behind it when he was writing it.
It was from watching the story that gave me the incentive to talk to Tom Walton about writing a sort of sequel to "The Seeds of Doom" and bringing back the Krynoid. I emailed him a synopsis and a small briefing, nothing too drastic, just ideas of what I wanted to get out of it and Tom was very much on board, he replied to my email very quickly with a keen interest to do it, he wrote the script extremely well and did a good job at linking in bits between this idea and Seeds of Doom that make it all connect together well within the continuity of the actual programme.
The Krynoids themselves are a great monster which sadly have never used again in Doctor Who since 1976. But Big Finish brought them back in an Eighth Doctor Adventure called "Hot House" which I recommend you listen to if you haven't already. Fans like myself really like the invention behind the monster and I think that's all partly goes back to how good a story Sees of Doom actually is.
The Krynoid Incursion will be uploaded this Saturday, 16th June
