Mortal Kombat 11 - Kombat League Seasons So Far :
Part Three - Seasons 9 - 11
Hi and welcome back to the final part of Kombat League seasons so far.
Finishing off the blog series with my thoughts on my experience playing kombat league so far from seasons 9 - 11.
Season 12 is due to start on Tuesday (tomorrow) it'll be live from 4:30pm / 5pm so without any further delay I start this blog post with season 9.
SEASON 9: The Season of Lost Souls (March / April 2020)
This was an interesting one as I thought all the skins in this season were white and silver with a green highlight which illuminated and glows and really stands out from everything else.
The characters they chose were an interesting choice, Kitana, Kung Lao, Raiden, and Cetrion. Probably not the four I would have chosen but none the less, I missed out on the Kung Lao revenants reborn skin so to own a skin in his revenant costume and normal skin appealed to me, even is he did have green eyes.
Even though there had been two other Kitana skins previous to this season released, I didn't take part or wasn't fortunate enough to earn those skins, so this was my first opportunity to earn a Kitana skin in kombat league.
Raiden looked cool because of the green lightening which shows in his intro and exit victory poses with this skin.
Cetrion, wasn't too bothered about her. She was my least favourite of the set so when I saw the ladder and that she was at the top, I wasn't too bothered by this.
My goal was to make sure I got Raiden, Kitana, and Kung Lao and realistically this was a doable task as all I had to do was complete all the season challenges and get to at least champion rank. But this was at a time when lockdown had started and I was working from home and I had time on my hands to play Mortal Kombat a bit more than usual.
Through playing more, I became much more efficient at being able to identify players character traits and how they would use their character strengths against me. It's good to have a keen eye and watch out for tactics or any special moves the opponent is likely to spam you with or do a lot of as an easy way out. You can spot such traits with Scorpion and Sub Zero players.
With this in mind, I was able to outsmart my opponents and win more matches, which earned me more points and meant I could climb the ranks even higher, and with consistency I earned the rank of Master. It was then I noticed a nice hammer accessory for Shao Kahn which I could have if I got to Grand Master rank at the end of the season. So I practiced some more in scenarios I thought I was likely to have and with a bit of luck and persistence I exceeded all expectations of any kombat league season I had played up until that point.
This season taught me that if you exceed yourself, have a bit of perseverance, luck, skill, and above all patience, you can achieve your goals. I realised I had the potential in me to be Grand Master rank and I am good at playing Mortal Kombat. I may not be the best player in the world, but I do enjoy it and I do want to get better at the game whilst climbing the ranks at the same time.
SEASON 10 - Season of Shadows (April / May 2020)
Why there wasn't a Noob Saibot skin for this season baffles me. It's like not having a Kollector skin for Season 8.
In this, players could win new skins for Scorpion, Skarlet, Frost, and Liu Kang.
I was only interested in one and that was Scorpion.
I wasn't as engaged with this season as I had been with others that had happened previously. This is due to lack of motivation and the rewards you could get just didn't appeal to me personally.
So for that reason, I wasn't playing as much and with Scorpion not being very difficult to get I did what I could to make sure I got that skin and then after that I didn't play that much. I started off well but due to point decay I ranked down badly and lost lots of points so finished up at Champion rank which I'm a little disappointed about. Oh well.
SEASON 11 - SEASON OF ORDER (June 2020)
This is the season that has just gone.
Order realm season which included skins for Jax, Jacqui Briggs, D'Vorah and Baraka.
I wanted Jax and Jacqui the most, and Baraka skin I thought looked nice but was my added bonus for this season. Sometimes with a kombat league season, I have two seasons I really want and then a third is my added bonus.
Turns out if I wanted to get this added bonus, I'd have to get to at least demi god rank. I was annoyed to see Baraka at the top of the ladder and D'Vorah in the middle. If only it was the other way around.
My overall experience of this season was positive and I've learnt a lot of things about kombat league and the people who play it. I won more sets than I lost and I got off to a very promising start reaching Master rank in a week of the season starting.
It then took me a week to get from Master to Grand Master, and then there was a lot of back and forth of ranking up and ranking down and ranking up again. The challenge only gets harder the higher you move up the ladder.
For instance if you reach Grand Master and want to get to Demi God, you need to earn a thousand more points from where you are to get to the god ranks at the top. Something I think should be reserved for when you get to the god ranks. As it is the very best players that are going to be aiming for the very top and likely to proceed further, doesn't seem very fair for players to have to work even harder to get to Demi God rank after working hard enough to get to Grand Master.
I did give up on the prospect of wanting to reach Demi God rank, and that would probably be the moment where you could say I failed because as soon as you give up and decide this isn't worth doing anymore, you have pulled the plug on that journey. Motivation and enjoyment went and all I wanted to do was make sure all my efforts didn't go to waste. I had to stay at Grand Master rank. Which I managed to do with a bit of luck and persistence.
This wraps up my experiences of playing kombat league so far.
A new season starts tomorrow and I'll have all the details on that once they get released.
