Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath: My Thoughts

Mortal Kombat 11
My Thoughts

Hi all.

So, it's been a hectic two weeks for me with the big announcement of the Mortal Kombat expansion as well as the Doctor Who season 14 box set being released and now the new annoucment of the new Doctor Who B&M action figure sets due for release next month. All those things have happened simultaionously - one after the other and I've needed to take everything in which is why my reaction and thoughts on these things are so late coming.

I will start off by talking about probably the most exciting thing which is Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath expansion pack. This has definutly comes as shock for me as a player and avid fan or Mortal Kombat. The base game of MK11 was incredible, I thought the story was really well done, I'm very happy with the characters and the arenas and various oppertunities that are open to the player. I knew something was coming like a kombat pack 2 or some additional content but I didn't initially think that we would ever get something as big as this on this scale.

When it was announced at the beginning of May, I was intrigued by what was to come. I watched the trailer and was completly blown away by what I saw. I had to watch the trailer again to fully understand what we were getting and what was happening. Essentially what is happening is, there is a new addition to the MK11 story which picks up where the story left off with Raiden and Fire God Liu Kang who had both defeated Kronika and were planning to resculpt the sands of time to form a better future, right before they're about to do that Shang Tsung turns up and warns Raiden and Liu Kang that in defeating Kronika Liu Kang destroyed her crown, which without they can't restart history so our heroes much forge an alliance to prevent chaos and destruction to all the realms.

Not just that three new characters consisting of - Fujin, Sheeva, and Robocop (I'll get on to those later), a new skin pack with new skins for Scorpion, Frost, and Sub Zero, stage fatalties, new fighting arenas, and friendships. It feels like Christmas has come early for a Mortal Kombat fan.

Apparently this was a big secret project that the developers working on it had to keep quiet for a year in order to keep the secret and spoiling the surprise. Like many others this is outstanding and brings so much joy and excitement to many gamers out there. Nothing like this has ever been tried before in a fighting game so it's oustanding that Netherrealm studios are prepared to go the extra mile and trial this out in one of their games.

The new characters - I knew already Fujin was coming as I over heard the voice announcer on a seperate audio file say 'Fujin wins' without knowing who Fujin was, now I know he's the god of wind and Raiden's younger brother. He has a lot of powers that consist of being able to control the wind to his advantage, he also has swords like Kenshi, and a cross bow which is a nice touch. His gameplay looks incredible. I know many players who are looking forward to playing as him when the update comes and he is the players favourite in terms of how he is going to play.

Sheeva! She was on my bucket list. I'm so so happy she's here. I loved Goro in MKX and it's great to see a Shokan in MK11 and what better than a kick ass girl like Sheeva. I'm very excited to play with her, practice with her and learn all the traits and combos she has to offer. She's my favourite in this mini wave of new characters and she's probably over taken Jade as being my favourite female character in the game.

Robocop. This one is interesting, as at first I was a bit kind of 'meh' to the idea at first, however having seen his gameplay in the trailer, he has some very interesting moves and combo hits that make him stand out from the crowd. I'm sure it will be quite fun to do a Robocop vs Terminator and it's nice that they featured that in the trailer of showing Robocop fight Terminator. He's certainly and interesting character but not necassarily a fighter and I did kind of think 'of all the guest characters, Robocop seems like such a strange one when we already have Terminator' but oh well. Let's wait an see.

There was also a little clip of the story that we were allowed to see of Sheeva, Nightwolf, Fujin, and Shang Tsung disgusied as a Shokan taking a coffin to the soul chamber. They are interupted by Erron Black, Baraka and a bunch of tarkatan warriors who are curious and suspicios of Sheeva and what her and her party are up to. They intervine, Shang Tsung gets discovered and one of Baraka's tarkatans falls into the acid pits. - My guess is Sindel is in the coffin, and Sheeva, Nightwolf, Fujin, and Shang Tsung were escorting her coffin to the soul chamber so Shang Tsung could resurect her to help them in the fight against Kronika.

Kronika naturally clocks on to their plan and tries to stop them. Aftermath is very much like the Avengers Endgame to MK11's Infinity War. This is only the second installment of a two-part story. It's really cool how they've incorporated the DLC characters into the story. Of course, we can't trust Shang Tsung but we just have to play along with it. I wonder if they'll be alternate endings, like there was in Injustice 2? It's possible.

Friendships -  These provide a change to all the blood, gore, and violence. exchange all that stuff for something more light, warm, comical and funny. I think Friendships provide a nice alternative to all the horrible blood and gore we are used to in Mortal Kombat games. So I welcome Friendships. Can't wait to see them all.

Stage Fatalties - They're back. I've only seen a few and it has been made official that there isn't a stage fatalty for every arena. But I will most certainly enjoy looking for them.

New Skin Pack - Out of the three skins that are included in the new skin pack. I like Scorpions and I love Sub Zeros. Not so keen on Frost's klassic skin but then I don't play her enough to care.

New Fighting Arenas - They look interesting. It's always nice for the gamers playing the game to have more choice and a change of scenery is always welcomed.

Those are my thoughts on the MK11 expansion pack. I have pre-ordered and await the big day on May 26th when we can explore Mortal Kombat futher in the Aftermath of MK11.
