Draft
for ‘Return to the Planet of the Dinosaurs’
Scene
1 – The
TARDIS lands in London 2015 and the Doctor and Kara emerge to see that the city
is silent and inactive. No one is seen walking, no cars, buses or taxis are
driving around and not even a bird call. It’s totally still and silent.
Scene
2 – Confused
and intrigued, they wander round the city to find out why everything has
suddenly ground to a halt and when they finally hear some movement and engines
in the distance, they follow the sound to see military men ordering a group of
men, women and children into the back of a truck before it’s driven away. The
Doctor asks what’s going on, to be told that people are having to be sent away
across the country as part of government evacuation orders because of the
“monsters”. Suddenly, they then hear loud roars and bangs coming from another
part of London and quickly run over to find out what it is.
Scene
3 – They
arrive on the scene to find a huge adult Tyrannosaurus Rex lying dead on the
ground, surrounded by soldiers. Group Captain Gilmore then emerges and orders
the Doctor and Kara to back away from the area, not recognising him due to his
regeneration. The Doctor remembers him, though, and Gilmore is baffled to how
he knows who he is. Gilmore orders a lorry to come and dispose of the dinosaur
and then walks off, unintentionally followed by the Doctor and Kara.
Scene
4 – Gilmore
gets annoyed that the two “strangers” are following him around and orders them
to leave before he orders his men to take them away. The Doctor quickly rambles
about ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ and after a brief conversation afterward,
accepts he is the Doctor. They go back to his headquarters to find out exactly
what’s going on.
Scene
5 – A
strange person is watching through a screen, fascinated and delighted that the
Doctor is there.
Scene
6 – The
Doctor and Kara are taken into HQ where they are reintroduced to Rachel and
Allison and the regeneration is explained. Afterward, it is explained how
several months ago dinosaurs just randomly started appearing around the city.
At first it was just the odd one which the military dealt with, but then the
numbers began to increase and London was officially unsafe to live or work in,
and so everyone was sent away across the country to various locations for their
own safety. During this time, other strange lights started to open right across
the city and other historical things from the city’s past began to emerge and
says the nearest recorded one isn’t far. The Doctor asks to be taken to see it
and Gilmore obliges.
Scene
7 – Gilmore
shows him the nearest light and the Doctor scans it with his sonic screwdriver
as well as assess it himself as well, and quickly concludes that it is in fact
a time fissure which is a hole in the fabric of time and essentially acts as a
time portal. He also adds that they only appear if time is being messed around
with in that area which means that someone else is behind it, which explains
why the TARDIS was acting oddly as it materialised. Just then, they hear a
loud, growly moan coming from round the corner. They walk down it and turn to
see a Brontosaurus slowly walking down. Gilmore gets out his gun when the
Doctor sternly reminds him that they were vegetarians and of no harm to
mammals. At that moment, a large Spinosaurus comes charging down the alleyway
from behind and starts fighting with the Brontosaurus. They quickly get out of
the area before they are harmed. Gilmore orders his men to come and deal with
the threat whilst they return to HQ.
Scene
8 – The
strange person watches them leave and orders for droids to be sent out to
capture the Doctor.
Scene
9 – A
Triceratops is fighting with a Raptor and military men are on the scene trying
to shoot them to stop the destruction and havoc they could cause.
Scene
10 – In
HQ, with Rachel and Allison, the Doctor says how what’s going on needs to be
stopped immediately and mentions how someone else must be behind all of the
fissures opening and how they have to find out who they are, where and why in
order to be able to put a stop to it all. Kara asks how they would deal with
the dinosaurs and other historical people when the fissures were closed, and
the Doctor explains that anything that passes through the fissures will be
surrounded with tiny, harmless particles that they pick up from the fissure,
and therefore when they close they will also be sent back to their correct
times.
Scene
11 – Robotic
Droids materialise in London and make their way towards the HQ. When the
military men nearby hear their chant for the Doctor, they try to shoot them to
protect him, however the droids then fire lasers at them to eliminate them.
Scene
12 – Gilmore
is told via radio control that droids are attacking his men and say they are
looking for the Doctor. After hearing this, the Doctor reckons that they have
been sent to collect him by the mastermind behind everything and asks Gilmore
to let the droids get to him. Gilmore gives them the command and the men, after
some debate, stand down and let the droids carry on. The droids stop firing at
the men when they stop and make their way to the HQ.
Scene
13 – Gilmore
orders his men in the base to standby with weapons just in case the worst
happens. Soon after the droids burst their way in, say they want the Doctor,
and then the Doctor lets them teleport him away.
Scene
14 – They
end up in a secret base beneath the city where a frail old man in a long, dark
rope stands in front of the Doctor. At first he treats the Doctor like an old
friend, and the Doctor has a hidden feeling that he may have met the man
before, but can’t remember top of his head but has a strong feeling he’s behind
everything. After a brief friendly conversation, the Doctor asks why he’s been
brought there. The man says that he needs him. The Doctor then suspects it’s to
do with the result of the time fissures around London and confronts him about
them. Then the man begins to get sterner and says as long as his experiments
proceed successfully, he can be the most powerful being in the universe. The
Doctor examines his equipment that is causing everything to happen and remarks
on how such technology is only possible to be constructed and used by a Time
Lord. Then the man reveals he is in fact a Time Lord, called Leddinon. The
Doctor knows of Leddinon, and says how a long time ago he used to be part of
the Time Lord High Council, but became too power hungry and attempted to
overthrow Rassilon and take over Gallifrey and time, and he was expelled from
the high council before being put on trial and exiled to an undisclosed
location completely harmless, which now turns out to be Earth. He goes on to
say he thought that, wherever he was, he would have been long dead by now.
Leddinon reveals he is reaching the end of his final incarnation after
centuries of salvation on Earth and is now slowly dying, and has been working
on this operation all this time. The Doctor asks how he is interfering with
time, and Leddinon opens a screen to a reveal a huge, glowing orb. He reveals
it is an Eye of Harmony which contains the very core of time itself. He
explains how angry and powerless he felt by being deposed and exiled by the
Time Lords, and has since been working on a scheme on Earth by using the Eye of
Harmony to be able to harness the power of time and become a god of time itself
and live forever, the disturbance of this thus causing the subsequent openings
of the time fissures around London. The Doctor is appalled by what he is doing
and says how what he’s doing is already causing time fissures to open all over
London and damaging the very fabric of time. Then he demands to know what he’s
required for, and Leddinon says that the Doctor has travelled through time and
space and passed through the time vortex more than any other Time Lord in
history. He therefore wants to have all of the Doctor’s knowledge and energy
traces picked up by all those centuries of time travelling in order for him to
complete the process, and remarks how much longer it would have taken if the
Doctor hadn’t have turned up when he did. The droids have the Doctor restrained
and take him to clamp him down on a vertical base.
Scene
15 –
Gilmore is informed that more time fissures are opening around London with some
other dinosaurs also coming through, due to the increasing time disturbance.
Scene
16 – The
military men are observing as they see more dinosaurs stomping around and
roaring in the distance, hoping that some miracle happens and it all gets
sorted soon.
Scene
17 – The
Doctor is now secured onto a vertical base as Leddinon presses some buttons and
switches on a console. The Doctor demands to know what’s going to happen to
him, and Leddinon says how he will extract all the energy and knowledge
directly from his body to be inputted straight into the Eye of Harmony so he
can use it to become the ultimate god of all time. The Doctor protests how mad
he is and how this is the reason he was deposed and exiled in the first place;
for becoming utterly power mad! He then goes onto say how no one could handle
all that time energy being harnessed by the Eye of Harmony, not even Rassilon
himself! Leddinon has none of it and protests back saying this shall make him
forever immortal and rejuvenated, so he can go on to take his rightful place as
ruler of all time!
Scene
18 – As
more dinosaurs are now emerging throughout London, Gilmore orders his men to
attack to protect the city and the potential threat of them overrunning the
whole country. A Tyrannosaurus Rex looms up ahead as they start firing their
guns, and suddenly a Pterodactyl zooms over their heads.
Scene
19 – Leddinon
begins the process of using his machine to extract the time energy and mind
power from the Doctor. The Doctor screams in immense pain as he does this, as
it starts to converge inside the Eye of Harmony.
Scene
20 – The
battle goes on, as a rumbling sound can start to be heard.
Scene
21 – The
extraction process continues, as Leddinon thrives in the knowledge of soon
being able to grasp absolute power. Suddenly the Eye starts to behave more
erratically as it starts to shake and sputter. Leddinon demands to know what is
happening, and the Doctor says how all this time power that the Eye is trying
to harness suddenly being boosted by a huge input of even more is too much even
for the Eye and is beginning to overload.
Scene
22 – The
earthquake gets more violent around London as the time fissures also begin to
behave more erratically.
Scene
23 – The
Doctor explains how the time interference has done so much damage that the Eye
can’t sustain any of it anymore and is giving in. Leddinon refuses to accept it
and sticks his arms into the Eye trying to embrace as much power as he can, but
he simply gets vaporised into atoms. With that, the Eye just completely
collapses and vanishes, restoring all the Doctor’s energy and mind power and
destroying all the droids in the room.
Scene
24 – The
earthquake stops as all the time
fissures round London suddenly collapse and disappear with the same effect, and
as the fighting carries on, the dinosaur too disappear. They stop firing.
Scene
25 – As
the base’s energy has now been severely weakened, the Doctor is able to escape
from the cuffs. He then stands by the destroyed machinery, remarking on how
Leddinon wasted his entire existence on trying to be the ultimate ruler of
time, and that it eventually cost him his life. He sighs, and then walks around
the base trying to find a way up to the city.
Scene
26 – When
he eventually gets out, he finds Gilmore and Kara to tell them what happened
and orders for the base to be filled in immediately so no one else can ever
repair it and have access to it again. Gilmore says how all evacuees shall
immediately be recalled back to the city now that the dinosaur threat is over.
The Doctor asks Gilmore to say goodbye to Rachel and Allison on his behalf.
Scene
27 – Gilmore
walks with the Doctor and Kara to the TARDIS, say their goodbyes, and then
Gilmore watches on as the TARDIS dematerialises and is left in complete
amazement.
END.
